In 2010 after a highly competitive process, Bartlesville was selected as an official Main Street city. Downtown Bartlesville, Inc. (DBI) was established as Bartlesville Main Street’s non-profit organization. In 2015, the organization name was changed to Main Street Bartlesville to better reflect our mission of bringing together downtown business and property owners, community leaders and Bartlesville area residents in revitalizing the downtown business district using the Main Street approach.
Throughout the nation, many communities are using the Main Street approach to revitalize their traditional commercial districts, bringing new life to downtown areas. Main Street Bartlesville, coordinates with the national and state networks of Main Street programs for action and support on all levels. The Oklahoma Main Street Program, a division of the Department of Commerce, oversees and provides assistance to 38 Main Street cities across the state, including Bartlesville. As part of its contract with the OK Main Street Program, Bartlesville is required to meet established criteria every year in order to maintain its Main Street status. Downtown Bartlesville is a unique destination for exceptional arts, culture, and entertainment, diverse dining experiences, distinctive retail shopping, and inviting work and living spaces that integrate historic architecture with a modern corporate environment.
Work inclusively with community and resources to plan, develop and promote an economically thriving downtown district as the unique center of our community by preserving and enhancing our historic legacy, creating a focus for local pride and a destination for residents and visitors.
Main Street™ is a philosophy, a program, and a proven comprehensive approach to downtown commercial district revitalization. This community-driven national program has been used for over 30 years in more than 2,000 cities and towns across the nation with the help of the National Main Street Center and statewide Main Street™ programs. Its success is based on its grassroots comprehensive nature, by carefully integrating the Main Street™ Four-Point approach into a practical downtown management strategy. Main Street™ programs will produce fundamental change in a community's economic base. Communities that have used this approach in their own business districts on average have had a reinvestment rate of $18 for every one dollar spent. Visit the National Main Street Program’s website at www.mainstreet.org for more information.
The Main Street™ Four-Point approach encompasses work in four distinct areas — Design, Economic Development, Promotion, and Organization. It encourages economic development by advocating a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community. As a Main Street organization, Main Street Bartlesville, has adopted the Four-Point Approach, with each of the four points represented by our committees.
